A week ago someone asked me, “Does a broken crystal mean that the purpose or intention that I’ve set is done or finished?”
And the answer is YES, the crystal has completed everything that it can do for you. This is a good opportunity to reflect on the changes before and after it broke. Contemplate on the changes that you are going through. There may be some attachments in your life that are calling you out to let go of or a new direction to consider?
In the yogic tradition, a broken mala or prayer beads is said to symbolize the breaking of a cycle of suffering, a spiritual breakthrough and a release of karma or negative traits. It is seen as a positive sign of progress.
What I usually do with a broken crystal is that I bury it in soil for a few months to energize it. After three full moons, I unearth it and set another intention.
Here are some tips to take care of your crystals:
Keep your crystals and malas out of direct sunlight as it may cause the color of the crystals to fade. If you are going to practice yoga or any dynamic movement exercise, remove it as they could fall off or get caught on something and break. I experienced this with my amethyst tantric necklace which I bought in Rishikesh. It’s still broken. I have to find an expert in stringing tantric necklaces to fix it.
If you want to use crystals during sleep, it’s best not to wear them. Put them under your pillow instead. Selenite is a good bedtime crystal. The energy will clear your aura and realign your chakras, Angelite is also helpful to connect to your angels and higher power, Other bedtime crystals are Flourite to stimulate mental clarity, Amethyst for protection, and Crystal Quartz to manifest your dreams and intentions.
There are many ways to energize your crystals. The first thing to do is to wash the crystals in water. The best is to use natural sources of water like a waterfall, lake, river, and ocean. If you live in a city like me, soak your crystals in water mixed with sea salt. After a few hours, rinse each crystal with water. I usually chant a mantra while rinsing and create a program for each of the crystal.
Some of the males have a tassel. When it becomes frayed or worn out, dip the tassel in water and carefully smooth it out with a comb and let it dry. Iron the tassel on low heat with a cloth over the top. If it’s really in a bad shape, you can restring it and put a new tassel.
Do not soak these crystals in water: azurite, selenite, lapis lazuli, opal, turquoise, amber, emerald, chrysocolla, pearl, and malachite.
To charge your crystals and malas:
* Full moon is a perfect time! Lay your crystals and malas under the moonlight. Check the timing, it’s best to do it exactly during the full moon. You can use sage or wash your crystals before laying them out.
* Amethyst, celestite or a clear quartz cluster can serve as chargers. Put your crystal or mala next to these crystals or on top of a cluster for 24 hours to absorb, disperse and neutralize any negative energy and replace it with positive energy.
* Incense or sage clears the energy as well. Set an intention in your mind as you diffuse the smoke.
* Singing bowl, gong or sound vibrations will remove negative energies.Place the crystal or mala inside the bowl or under the gong.
Notes on the Easter Break
As I proclaimed this year to be a year of doing my bucket list, I’ll be taking another scuba dive to soak in the healing waters of the ocean and connect to my love of the water. There won’t be any class next week due to the Lenten season. The next kundalini yoga class is a rebirthing class on Monday, April 22. There will also be Kundalini Yoga workshop on Vayus, Pranas and Nadis on April 27 and Scent and Sound Healing to cultivate inner peace on April 28.
Whatever your faith, take the week to reflect, recharge, and feel reborn.
In loving Service,
Rosan
