Getting ready for the lockdown to be lifted.
My neighborhood is up and about! There is life outside. People are walking everywhere, dogs as well and there are more cars out. It already feels like general community quarantine (GCQ) except that the three main roads are still blocked, and only one way is open, this time without the military and only barangay police deployed.
On Monday, some of you will be reporting back to work with the GCQ approved protocols in place– this is social distancing at 6-feet apart, disinfection schedules, enforced wearing of masks, hand washing all the time. But the virus is still circulating, so of course, we’re all worried and stressed about exposing yourself and your loved ones to risk as you go back to work.
The start of this new normal is as exciting as it is stressful, especially as we’re enduring a pandemic. Stress as we know it can weaken your immune system and upset your quality of life. It can also keep you from thinking clearly.
As we’re all scrambling to get back to business as usual during the GCQ, we have to find ways to stay steady.
I’m going to share this meditation I taught yesterday at the Aegle Serenity Series.
This meditation will protect you from irrationality as you develop a calm mind and steady nerves. Here’s how to do it:
Sit with a straight spine (on the floor or chair). Hold your left hand at ear level with the tips of the thumb and ring finger touching (Surya mudra). Place your right hand in the lap with the tips of the thumb tip and pinkie finger touching (Buddhi mudra). Note that for males, the mudra is reversed so that the right hand is in Surya at ear level, and the left hand is in Buddhi. The eyes are 1/10th open. Make the breath long and deep but not powerful. Do this for at least 11 minutes. To end the meditation, inhale deeply, open the fingers, raise the hands and shake them rapidly for several minutes. Then relax.
The world awaits, but there’s no rush to seize it. Go from within, and take it slowly.
Be well and take care.
In loving service,
Rosan
