I’ve had stiff joints lately. It must be from constant computer use. The knuckle of my right index finger is swollen and hurts, and also my right knee. It must be arthritis as I’m getting older (LOL). I always turn to yoga for natural healing remedies. The best way to treat my problem is to take turmeric, which is touted as a miraculous herb.

Turmeric comes from the root of a plant grown mainly in India. We have it here in the Philippines, commonly referred to as dilaw because of its color. Yogi Bhajan wrote in Foods for Health and Healing, “Turmeric is a health-giving food which has been recognized in India for centuries. Current research in India indicates that it may as long thought be of value in preventing diabetes and cancer. Its primary use is as a lubricant to make the joints flexible. It is also excellent for the skin and mucous membranes, especially the female reproductive organs.”

That’s why I’m taking turmeric right now , lots of it for its anti-inflammatory effects. I have a paste and mix it in my drinks and food. The other uses of turmeric are as a digestive aid and to help lower cholesterol. It has become an essential nutrient for women over 28 to keep their flexibility and vitality.

Take note that turmeric should always be cooked before eating so the body can easily take in its healing powers. The famous Indian yellow color dishes are made of turmeric, such as curries, pakora, pilaus, etc.

To make turmeric paste, cook turmeric in water or oil. The paste can be mixed in your drink or food or applied externally on your skin. Yes, turmeric is used to have soft, smooth, and glowing skin as well. In fact, you can apply a turmeric mask using the paste to get rid of acne. I haven’t tried though.

Sharing this popular turmeric paste recipe which you can mix to make Golden Milk.

Ingredients:
1/8 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 cup water
1 cardamom pod (optional)

Instructions:
Boil turmeric in water for about 8 minutes until it forms a thick paste. You can add more water as necessary. The cardamom may be cooked with turmeric for added flavor. You can keep this paste refrigerated up to 40 days.

To make Golden Milk:
8 ounces milk or milk alternative (I use almond milk)
2 tablespoons raw almond oil or other healthy oil

If you don’t have time to do the turmeric paste and find it messy since it stains, I luckily got a source for pre-made bottled paste. I’ve been using the paste and mixing it with milk for beverages. Drop me a message to find out where you can order

Wishing you all good health, and here’s to aging gracefully.
