Hello from Chiang Mai! I’m here to take the Core Shamanic Healing Series, which starts tomorrow. I took some courses with the teacher during the pandemic, and this is the first time he’s teaching face-to-face.
As I embark on this Shamanic healing modality, I’m reminiscing on how I ended up in the practice of healing arts. There’s a saying attributed to Buddha: “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear..”
My journey into healing arts must have started in 1999.
I was preparing for a GUE cave diving course in Ginnie Springs, Florida. I over-trained because when I woke up one morning, I couldn’t move. The upper left side of my body was paralyzed.
The orthopedic doctor attending to me recommended immediate surgery and said it would take a year to get back to normal without it. I opted not to do the surgery. I stayed in the hospital for two weeks on a hardwood bed and 24-hour traction. A friend who visited even made this sketch after the visit:
I was determined to get well.
I went to see Dr. Omar Arabia, an oncologist practicing homeopathic medicine. He put me on a strict vegan diet and hourly carrot juice. He also recommended combining my physical therapy with Tuina massage and acupuncture.
Note though, that this was largely because I knew my own body and had the intuition to look for options. There are cases that need serious medical attention, so make sure to observe, be mindful, and also review your options with professionals.
In 2001, my acupuncturist, a Reiki Master, introduced me to Reiki. I studied Reiki 1 and 2 with her and volunteered to practice with patients in hospital wards. In 2003. I was in Australia for a month to study meditation and the Inner Space Interactive Sourcing (ISIS) healing technique under Clairvision founder Samuel Sagan. In 2007, I was doing Kabbalah with Rav Berg. I got into inner dance with Pi Villaraza in 2009. In 2011. I learned BE Well energy healing with Master del Pe in the United States. In 2012, I learned Theta Healing. And in the following year, in 2013, I got introduced to Kundalini Yoga.
I’ve been doing Hatha yoga since 1995 and studied Ashtanga with Pattabi Jois in Mysore in 2007. Kundalini Yoga was the one that was highly transformative. Things just happened so fast.
And today, I’m now getting into Shamanic Healing.
What is Shamanic Healing?
Shamanic Healing uses drumming, similar to the effect of the Gong’s, as the drum’s frequency is also in the theta wave frequency of four to seven cycles per second.and like the healing practices I’ve learned, believe that any illness may have an underlying energetic issue.
The difference is that the Shamans, according to Earl E. Bakken, work in trance states to their consciousness to travel to the realms of the invisible worlds. He said, “A shaman is a specific type of healer who uses an alternate state of consciousness to enter the invisible world, which is made up of all unseen aspects of the world that affect us, including the spiritual, emotional, mental, mythical, archetypal, and dream worlds.”
‘m excited to learn this ancient mystical practice. I’ll be back on March 5. The classes next week will continue every Tuesday and Thursday but at 6:30 pm.
See you online, and when I get back!
In loving service,
Rosan
