I learned about Chakra Toning during the Sounding the Sacred Feminine Soundquest in Bali with Michelle Averard and her daughter Charli Kornblum.
I met Michele and her husband Nestor when I took the Sound Healer training diploma course in Alicante, Spain in 2020. That’s where I learned to work with my voice – overtones and singing and also the use of tuning fork for acupuncture and other instruments like the monochord, flutes and other percussion instruments.
Chakra Toning is a powerful technique that uses voice and vowel sounds to cleanse and balance the chakras.
Toning is a technique using the voice and it’s quite easy to do. You don’t have to be a singer or have a good voice, you only need to use the vibrations of your voice. The technique cleanses the chakras and a standing wave is generated and directed toward specific energy centers corresponding to physical organs or nerve plexes.
The human body is composed of energy, which flows through and around us, influencing our overall state. When our chakras are imbalanced or blocked, we may experience negative emotional or physical symptoms related to a specific chakra.
Understanding the seven major chakras along the spine is crucial for addressing these imbalances and promoting well-being:
1. Root Chakra: Located at the base of the spine, it governs our sense of safety, security, and the fulfilment of basic needs.
2. Sacral Chakra: Positioned about 2-3 inches below the navel, it influences our sexual and creative energies and our ability to connect with others.
3. Navel Chakra: This chakra empowers us and provides strength.
4. Heart Chakra: Located at the center of the chest, it governs our capacity to love and show compassion.
5. Throat Chakra: Associated with the power of communication and expression.
6. Third Eye Chakra: Located between the eyebrows, it is connected to intuition and imagination.
7. Crown Chakra: Representing our spiritual connection to ourselves, others, and the Universe/God, it is also linked to our life’s purpose.
When energy flows freely among the chakras, it promotes mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. However, imbalances arise when energy becomes stagnant or blocked, affecting our overall energy, immunity, and emotional state. Chakra toning serves as a means to restore balance and harmony within these energy centers.
Here’s how to practice chakra toning
Find a quiet and comfortable space where you can be undisturbed. Sit with a straight spine, ensuring you don’t strain. Breathe deeply, expanding your lower stomach as you inhale. Here is a guide for toning each chakra, starting from the root:
1. Root Chakra: Tone with the sound “UGH,” focusing on the base of your spine.
2. Sacral Chakra: Tone “U,” as in “you,” while directing your focus to the area 2-3 inches below your navel.
3. Solar Plexus Chakra: Tone with the sound “OH,” as in “go,” focusing on area 2-3 inches above your navel.
4. Heart Chakra: Tone the sound “AH,” as in “ma,” while centering your attention on the center of your chest.
5. Throat Chakra: Tone with the sound “EH,” emphasizing your throat area.
6. Third Eye Chakra: Tone the sound “I,” directing your focus to the middle of your forehead, slightly above your eyes.
7. Crown Chakra: Embrace silence and stillness, allowing your connection to the Crown Chakra to unfold naturally.
Chakra toning is one means of cleansing and balancing our energy centers, promoting overall well-being on multiple levels.
We’ve spent the last few weeks learning about chakras in the Healing yoga series. Have you been feeling the difference? Do share your stories, as it would help me and many more fine-tune our practice.
In loving service,
Rosan
