An important cosmic event, the winter solstice was at 6:23am (Manila time) yesterday.
There are four cosmic events – solstices and equinoxes. Solstice occurs twice a year when the sun appears to stand still at the highest or lowest point in the sky and observed by the longest and shortest day of the year. Equinox occurs twice a year as well and this is the time at which the sun crosses the celestial equator, when day and night are of equal length.
These cosmic events are celebrated as a point of heightened change, spiritual power, and enlightenment. This is fertile time for manifestation and creation. It is said that solstice is a time when the Universe offers an outpouring of Light to expand consciousness, raise our vibration, heighten psychic and spiritual abilities, and receive nourishment from the Sun. The winter solstice crowns the cosmic gateway from 12:12 to 12:21 and is “a spectacular time of the year when the energy is rampant with high vibrations and frequencies to lift us up in consciousness and to New levels of Being.”
Yogi Bhajan calls this period as the “Time to change oil.”
He said in a lecture on December 17, 1992 “[it] is the most beautiful human psyche. Actually these ten days you know, which starts on twenty second of December, ten days, actually these are the days when a person should celebrate because you change your oil in the body. The serum changes at summer solstice the blood changes and at the winter solstice time by the psyche because the electromagnetic field of the earth and the flare of the sun create the pranic value and that’s what it is. So these ten days are meant to eat right, light, and jubilant and be very happy, these days are for damn so that serum in the body you know the mucous membrane and the fluid in the body, that changes and in summer the chemistry of the blood changes.”
It is not an accident that the zodiac sign related to these cosmic events are Cardinal signs: Aries (Spring equinox), Cancer (Summer solstice), Libra (Fall equinox) and Capricorn (Winter solstice). Cardinal comes from the Latin word cardinalis meaning “hinge”or “something which a development turns or depends”; In other words, principal or pivotal. The role of cardinal signs is to push forward, be first, initiate, set things in motion.
And for this winter solstice, it falls under Capricorn, a sign of ambition, a force of substantial achievement. It is recommended to do some kind of releasing of the past and bringing in this new energy, the coming of the light. And note that it’s a Full Moon today in Cancer . A Full Moon Winter Solstice won’t happen again until 2094!
Ask yourself: what have I learned this year, what did I accomplish, what was my best decision this year, what am I proud of, what am I most grateful for, what did I let go of and what do I still need to let go of.
There is a Zen saying that goes “You are like this cup. You ask for teaching but your cup is full. Before I can teach you, you must empty your cup.”
As the year comes to a close and Christmas is upon us, do spend some time to reflect and let go of ambitions and goals that no longer support your well being, and celebrate and be grateful for all you are and have become.
And what a year it’s been! Thank you for being a part of it, whether by following this newsletter or attending classes. I hope to see and hear more from you in the year ahead. Do attend tomorrow’s workshop on Understanding the Chakras, our very last class for 2018. Classes will resume on January 3, and I look forward to continuing the journey with you.
In loving service,
Rosan
