Yesterday was Thanksgiving. Americans consider the occasion to be more important than Christmas, and gather family and friends together for a large meal.

One my fondest memories as a high school exchange student in Pennsylvania was Thanksgiving with my host family. They were busy in the kitchen cooking and baking, and excited to see other family members. Over dinner, everyone shared what they were grateful for that year.

Thanksgiving Day is a good tradition to pause and reflect on what we can be grateful for. But we don’t have to wait for a day to be thankful. We can celebrate every day.

The founder of Kundalini Yoga in the United States had said that, “The attitude of gratitude is the highest way of living”

He went on to explain, “You cannot live with applied consciousness until you understand that you have to be grateful for what you have. If you are grateful for what you have, then Mother Nature will give you more.”

This isn’t the first time I’m giving this practice – but how are you with your gratitude list? One way to cultivate an attitude of gratitude is to write ten things you’re grateful for before going to sleep and getting up in the morning. What’s worth repeating is that for the ten things you are grateful for, recognize both the challenges you come up against and all the blessings you have. Use what you have learned and experienced to become a better version of yourself.
