Stress has become part of our everyday life. It affects our health, job performance and emotions. If not managed well, stress will ultimately lead to burnout. Meditation is a practice of resting and calming the mind and can help deal with stress. It is, after all, the art of turning inward and silencing the mind to attain calm, peace, and balance.
Several CEOs practice meditation to become better leaders and achieve success.
The five CEOs who have a regular mediation practice are:
1. Steve Jobs of Apple
An early adopter of meditation at the workplace, he said, “Your mind just slows down, and you see a tremendous expanse in the moment. You see so much more than you could see before.” Meditation is where he gets his insights from divine inspiration.
2. Jeff Weiner, chairman of Linkedin
Weiner meditates daily to bring him more positivity and focus. It has helped him improve issues that may have gone previously unrecognized, thanks to meditation’s ability to create greater awareness.
3. Ariana Huffington of Thrive Global
She meditates 20-30 mins every day. She says,” I wish I’d appreciated just how powerful it can be… but even just a few minutes will open the door to creating a new habit and all the many proven benefits it brings.”
4. Andrew Cherng of Panda Restaurant Group
Cherng encourages store managers to take some time to meditate if they lose their cool, resulting in better leadership and lower stress levels in the long term.
5. Bill Gates of Microsoft
Gates is a late adopter. He never was interested in meditation, finding it to be more of a “woo-woo thing tied somehow to reincarnation,” but, as of 2018, he now meditates two or three times per week, for about 10 minutes each time. He said,” I now see that meditation is simply exercise for the mind, similar to how we exercise our muscles when we play sports.”
Meditation will allow you to become steady, calm, and focused in stressful situations.
It will teach you to stay in the moment, not to worry about the future, and not obsess over the past. Studies show that meditation sharpens attention, memory, and even emotional intelligence. And we all need emotional intelligence at work and even at home. The more emotional intelligence there is, the more trust exists within, and the more everyone understands everyone’s motivation.
For those new here, here’s how to start:
Start with a simple 3 minutes meditation and then build it up to 7, 9, and 11 minutes. Three minutes of meditation affects the electromagnetic field, circulation, and the stability of the blood. Eleven minutes begins to change the nerves and glandular system. So, start slow and take baby steps.
If you want a meditation for yourself or teach your employees or co-workers and even family members how to meditate, let me know. I can organize a session and share the techniques with you as well.
In loving service,
