I’m currently attending a sacred feminine sound quest with my voice and sound healing teacher, Michelle Averard and her daughter Charli in Ubud, Bali. Along with 18 other women from different countries and ages, we are here to connect to the mother goddess and tap into our internal power to ground us and give us life. The timing of this workshop couldn’t be more perfect as two cosmic events are coming up – the New Moon in Gemini on June 18 and the Summer Solstice on June 21.
As an air sign, Gemini reminds us of the power of our mind, thoughts, and spoken word. We’re invited to pay attention to how we use these tools and develop multiple things simultaneously.
The solstice happens twice a year – summer and winter. During the summer solstice, the solar energy is the highest, and our ability to connect to this light during the longest day of the year is the most opportune. The yogis say that if there is a single “high holy day,” it is the day of Solstice. This day marks the beginning of Dakshinayana, the six-month period when the Sun begins its apparent southward journey through the sky.
All yoga practices connected with the Sun are powerful on Summer Solstice, and it is the most potent day of the year to connect to your soul’s inner sun.
This is the time to meditate, meditate, meditate. The days leading up to Solstice give us a powerful opportunity to heal and strengthen the glandular system.
As a gift to you, I’m sharing a meditation to celebrate the power of the cosmos and our inner light during this special time. You can do this today up to New Moon and all the way to Solstice. Just be mindful not to practice this meditation for more than 11 minutes. The purpose of this practice is to ignite your inner glow and affect the Universe.
To begin, sit in Easy Pose (or chair) with a straight spine and a light Neck Lock. Bring your arms in front of your body and bend your elbows to form two right angles held up at chest level. Rest your right hand and forearm on top of the left. Begin moving your arms up and down as a unit, quick pulses of approximately 3 inches of movement. Chant Sa Ta Na Ma in a strong whisper.
With each sound of the mantra, move your arms down and pull your navel in simultaneously. The repetition of the mantra, movement of the arms and navel should all be in sync. Move in a quick and coordinated dance of the arms and navel with power.
And with that, as always, may you and the universe be in alignment.
In loving service,
Rosan
