I woke up last Wednesday with my scalp very tender and sensitive and painful to touch.
I thought it was from the heat or too much meditation after spending a weekend in El Nido meditating early morning, doing a workshop and gong baths at night and teaching on Monday. Since the pain wouldn’t go away, I washed my hair around noon and the pain was still there. By 5pm, I messaged a doctor and he asked if I hit my head and if I did, I must immediately go to the hospital for a MRI. If not, it was a migraine and I had to take a pain killer. The pain still wouldn’t go away and I couldn’t sleep. It was painful to rest my head on my pillow.

I checked Google and typed “scalp tenderness and sensitivity” and was directed to Medical News Today where it says that scalp tenderness is a common complaint and is linked to migraine, autoimmune disorders like psoriasis, eczema, alopecia (hair loss), sunburns and even insect bites.  And prolonged cases of scalp sensitivity, like in my case, more than 12 hours, should be reported to a doctor.

Health tips and how Theta Healing helped manage pain
I researched some more about what type of doctor needed and I was directed to the Women’s Hair Loss Project blog where the author narrated her experience about seeing several doctors over a period of 8 years – four dermatologists, two endocrinologists, a gynaecologist, a general practitioner and someone who specializes in thyroid problems. Curious, I read the entire page and scrolled down to the comments section. I zeroed in on a comment who,  after seeing four dermatologists over the past 20 years, discovered Dr. Geoffrey Redmond, an endocrinologist who specializes in women’s hair loss.

I went to the website and read that alopecia or hair loss is one of the most disturbing and most neglected female hormone problems. It affects 20%  of women before menopause and up to 40% after that. There are two types of diseases that cause alopeci: alopecia areata, which is due to the immune system attacking the follicles, and androgenic alopecia, which is hormonal.  The high level of testosterone  inactivates hair follicles on the scalp.

Having found the cause, I used theta healing and within seconds, my scalp was no longer tender to touch and I could finally rest my head on the pillow to sleep. And I did sleep well that night.

Hair, according to Dr. Reimond, represents, “Youth, vitality, energy, even fertility –  attributes no woman wants to be without… It is the only part of the body which can be altered and shaped. Styling and coloring hair are forms of self-expression. Even the choice to do nothing with one’s hair but wash and comb is still a way of showing one’s individuality.”

Here are some tips from the good doctor on how to handle our hair:

  • Heat makes hair fragile. Best to use a blow dryer with the heat turned off.
  • Use a loose comb not a brush. Don’t tug at your hair but separate tangles gently with your fingers.
  • Don’t bleach unless you absolutely must make your hair color lighter. Bleaches are hard on hair.
  • If your style requires pulling your hair back (i.e. pony tail, braids or corn rows), do so gently.
  • Wash your hair frequently to keep it in good condition.

He did mention Minoxidil (Rogaine) and he said that it must be applied to the entire scalp twice a day and whatever hair that comes in will fall out if the treatment is discontinued.

Heads up on future classes
I’ll be leading a 6-week  women’s health series particularly focusing on the impact of the lunar cycle next week called Lunar Woman. I’ll also be holding a Basic Theta Healing class on June 12 to 14.

For those who missed the announcement: I am now an independent theta healer, and can be booked for private sessions anywhere — whether it’s in my own private studio, a quiet coffee shop, or in the comfort of your home. Do message me to book a session.

Stay healthy and hope to see you soon.

In loving service,

Rosan
