Last weekend, I was invited to a company team-building. I taught a yoga class in the morning and shared stress management tools to be calm and steady for an hour in the afternoon.
I used to work in corporate too and remembered how team-building was a time to get away and bond as a team, so now I loved that this particular session had a wellness component.
I like that the corporations are looking not only after financial wellness but also their employees’ mental and emotional wellness. I appreciate it also that they are now open to introducing yoga techniques.
I mentioned last week that CEOs attest to daily meditation’s benefits. For example, Andrew Cherng of Panda Restaurant Group encourages his store managers to take some time to meditate if they lose their cool, resulting in better leadership and lower stress levels in the long term.
Today, I’m going to share a breathwork meditation (or pranayama) for a calm heart.
This is an excellent meditation if you are anxious, upset at work, or anything else. Do this for 3 to 15 minutes. The meditation will help you decide how to act after.
Sit in a chair or on the floor with your head, neck, and back. Eyes closed and gazing at the brow point. Place your left hand on the center of the chest at the Heart Center. The palm is flat against the chest, and the fingers are parallel to the ground, pointing to the right. Press the thumb and index fingers of the right hand and raise the hand to the right side of the shoulder as if giving an oath. The palm faces forward. The elbow is relaxed near the side, with the forearm perpendicular to the ground. Inhale slowly and deeply through both nostrils. Then suspend the breath in and raise the chest. Retain it as long as possible without gasping. Then exhale smoothly, gradually, and completely. When the breath is out, lock the breath out for as long as possible.
Try it, especially this season, as you get through your end of year obligations.
And just like that, it’s December!
It can get very busy around this time, but our sessions have been said to be helpful with dealing with the stress that comes with the holidays.
I am teaching a series to get Future Ready every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:15 to 7:30 pm. The series is a self-empowerment package to help you thrive in uncomfortable situations and become future-ready.
See you in our upcoming sessions!
In loving service,
Rosan
